Reflectix Insulation in Wrightwood, CA

Reflectix Insulation in Wrightwood, CA | Cozy Insulation Co

We provide independent Reflectix insulation service across Wrightwood, CA (92397), and unlike Reflectix in Oak Hills, the one thing that separates our work here from a typical Inland Empire job is the architecture. Most Wrightwood homes have vaulted ceilings or cramped attic cavities where foil only works if it’s installed with a proper air gap. Cozy Insulation Co has been installing and repairing Reflectix radiant barriers in Wrightwood’s alpine cabins long enough to know the difference. Call (855) 382-3925 for a free estimate.

Why Wrightwood Residents Choose Us for Reflectix Service

Reflectix foil is simple in theory and unforgiving in practice, especially at 6,000 feet. We know how it behaves when snow sits on a roof for three weeks and ridge winds push 40-mile-an-hour gusts through every vent. Our team has spent years pulling failed foil out of Wrightwood attics, and that experience means we won’t repeat the mistakes we’ve already seen. Mike Callahan, our owner, learned the building trades at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, where hands-on construction coursework showed him exactly how much a poorly insulated home costs a family. That’s the standard we bring to every A-frame and chalet up here.

We’re independent. We’re not authorized by Reflectix, and that’s a good thing for you. Our recommendations come from watching foil perform in Wrightwood’s freeze-thaw winters, not from a brand playbook. We also carry genuine Reflectix products and equivalent ASTM-rated foil barriers, so a supply hiccup never leaves your cabin uninsulated in December.

Common Reflectix Insulation Problems We Solve in Wrightwood

Here’s what we actually find when we open up a Wrightwood attic or vaulted ceiling:

  • Foil stapled directly to roof sheathing with no air gap. This is the most common issue we see in Wrightwood’s older vacation cabins. Without that half-inch to one-inch air space, Reflectix doesn’t reflect radiant heat. It conducts it. Snow on the roof melts from below, refreezes at the eaves, and you get ice dams. We correct the air gap before anything else.
  • Solid foil on the cold side of vaulted ceilings. Perforated and solid Reflective Foil Facing are not interchangeable. Solid foil traps moisture when a cabin is occupied in winter, and that moisture condenses on the foil. Mold follows. In Wrightwood’s snow-country homes, we specify perforated foil for vaulted assemblies so the assembly can dry.
  • Vented crawlspaces that still freeze. A Reflectix Crawl Space Vapor Barrier stops ground moisture, but it won’t stop cold mountain air from moving through foundation vents. We see frozen plumbing in Wrightwood cabins every winter. Rim joists need sealing and the venting strategy needs to be rethought before the vapor barrier goes in.
  • Chalky, peeling foil from UV and snow-driven dust. Exposed foil in vented attics degrades over time. Wrightwood’s ridge winds push fine snow and grit through vents, and that dust coats the foil, killing its emissivity. If your foil is intact, we clean and re-tension it. If it’s embrittled or delaminated, it gets replaced.
  • Vaulted ceilings with no attic cavity at all. Many Wrightwood A-frames have exposed beams and tongue-and-groove ceilings, meaning there’s no attic to insulate. Reflectix has to go between rafters or on the roof deck from above. It’s a completely different installation than a flat attic, and a lot of contractors from down the hill don’t know that.

Reflectix Service in Wrightwood: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Wrightwood’s mid-century A-frame and chalet cabins often have vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and no attic cavity whatsoever. That means Reflectix radiant barrier can’t be laid flat across an attic floor the way it would be in Rancho Cucamonga or Montclair. It has to be applied to the roof deck from above during a reroof, or fitted between rafters from inside. That second method is trickier: you’re working around collar ties, wood stove flues, and decades of wiring, and the air gap has to be consistent or the foil underperforms. This constraint is unique to Wrightwood’s second-home architecture. A Victorville contractor, or one only familiar with Reflectix in Phelan, who has only ever rolled foil across a truss attic won’t have the instincts for it. We do. Last winter we worked on a 1960s A-frame cabin off Lone Pine Canyon Road where the owner complained of ice dams and soaring heating bills. We found original Reflectix foil stapled tight to the roof sheathing with no air gap, and the vaulted ceiling had settled fiberglass batt insulation leaving the ridge bare. We removed the failed foil, installed baffles to create a 1-inch vent channel, applied new perforated Reflectix with a proper air gap, and blew cellulose to R-49 in the accessible flat sections. The ice dams stopped and the owner reported the propane bill dropped by a third the following season.

Reflectix Models & Products We Service in Wrightwood

We work on all the Reflectix products you’re likely to find in a Wrightwood cabin. That includes Double Reflective Insulation bubble pack, which people often staple to garage doors or crawlspace walls. It includes the R-21 Attic Wall Radiant Barrier, which shows up in a lot of mid-century additions up here. And it includes reflective foil facing in both perforated and solid forms, plus the Crawl Space Vapor Barrier that so many Wrightwood cabins have under their floors. If your existing foil is embrittled or delaminated, we replace it. If it’s intact, we clean and re-tension it before adding R-value. We stock genuine Reflectix products locally, and when supply is tight, we can specify equivalent ASTM-rated foil barriers. What matters is the air gap and the installation detail, not the logo.

Reflectix Service Pricing in Wrightwood

Most Reflectix radiant barrier work in Wrightwood falls between $1,200 and $3,800 depending on square footage, roof pitch, and whether we’re repairing existing foil or starting fresh. A simple crawlspace vapor barrier job might run $800 to $1,500. A full vaulted-ceiling retrofit with baffles, air-sealing, and new perforated foil generally lands between $2,500 and $6,000, because you’re working overhead, around beams, and often from scaffolding. A free estimate includes a full attic or ceiling inspection, and we’ll tell you if your existing foil can be salvaged or needs replacement. Call (855) 382-3925 for an exact quote. Mike Callahan is happy to walk you through what he’d do and why.
